Kathy Guyton graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with bachelors degrees in English and Communications. After college, Kathy moved to Los Angeles where she studied screenwriting at the American Film Institute.
After marrying Jim Guyton and starting a family, Kathy became interested in American History and onomastics, or the study of name derivations.
For about ten years she studied the names and histories of each state, learning the details of how each name was derived and why it was used for its designated borders on the map.
The result is U.S. State Names: The Stories of How Our States Were Named, a fascinating look at the story of each name.
